Ex-Libris
Ex-Libris: The bookplate in the front cover of a book indicating its owners.
The Ex-Libris lets those interested in such things find out quickly what books I’m reading.
- Blue at the Mizzen – Patrick O’Brian
- L’inferno-Dante Alighieri Translated by Robert M. Durling. This new translation, (relatively new anyway 1997) has been tremendous fun. I read Mandelbaum’s translation in college, plus the Inferno in Italian. His notes and background provide a wealth of information about Medieval Italy, the political struggles within Italy and Dante himself. Also it seems to be improving my appreciation for Virgil’s Aeneid.
- Iceland Sagas. The Icelandic Sagas continue to please. It is also making the Bible look pretty cool, both texts are the stuff of legend, include real places named for their heroes and villains, and have a whole lot of epic scale. Though the sagas have decidedly less death and destruction. They do however have a number of one-buttocked men… You’ll have to read them to find out what that means. No Tag
